4, 285 students successful in Law School Bar final exam
OF THE 5, 891 students that participated in the Nigerian Law School Final Bar examinations, a total of 4, 285 were successful. 29 students were graded First Class, 211 Second Class Upper and 1, 046 made
Second Class Lower.
This was contained in a statement issued in Bwari, FCT, and signed by Mr Chinedu
Ukekwe, Head of Information and Protocol of the Nigerian Law School, in the
released summary of the final examination results conducted in August.
Ukekwe noted that 2, 999 accounted for Pass, 334 candidates are with conditional,
while 1, 272 failed representing 22-percent failure.
He said that a further breakdown of the results showed that candidates with Pass
accounted for 72.7 per cent, those with conditional Pass represented 5. 7 per cent,
while those who failed were 21.6 per cent.
He further revealed that the ‘Call to the Bar’ ceremony for the successful candidates
will hold on Nov. 28 and 29 in Abuja. (NAN)
Police: Identity of man who jumped into Lagos lagoon confirmed
POLICE IN LAGOS have confirmed the identity of a 40-year-old man who jumped into the lagoon around Lekki–Ikoyi link bridge on Friday.
His attempt was deemed an apparent suicide plunge.
ASP Olarinde Famous–Cole, Lagos State Police Command spokesman, said that the man is identified as Adekunle Oluseyi John from Ondo State.
He said: “Report on the suicide was reported at Maroko Division at about 10:15am and police operatives quickly rushed to the scene and alerted rescue unit.
“During a search of the area, his mobile phone was retrieved from the scene. The man is about 40 years of age named Adekunle Oluseyi John from Ondo state.
“Rescue operations by the police and other bodies is ongoing, “ the police spokesman told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos.
NAN also reports that Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the Marine Police were at the scene in search of the body.
It was unclear what led to the suicide plunge but NAN gathered that the man pulled off his clothes and left some belongings, including his phone and ATM card, before jumping into the lagoon.

Ambode swears in 16th Lagos Chief judge, to establish commercial courthouses

Ambode stressed that the new courthouse would assist in accommodating all commercial related organs of the judiciary, drive commerce and improve the ease of doing business in Lagos state.
The governor, who swear in Oke at the State House, Alausa Secretariat,
Ikeja, assured residents that his administration would continuously
cooperate with the judiciary in developing and implementing
appropriate strategies to ensure speed justice delivery.
He said: “I want to assure you of our commitment to do whatever is
required of us to ensure that the on-going reform in the Judicial
sector achieves the desired effect.”
The governor lamented that despite reforms and achievement recorded in
justice delivery, speedy justice delivery had remained work in
progress over the years in the state.
“We have made significant progress in this regard with the various
reforms that have been initiated and implemented however I believe
strongly that we can do more by stepping up our efforts so that the
wheel of justice can roll faster without necessarily compromising the
fundamental principle of fair hearing and rule of law.

Event: MUPAN to inaugurate new executives
OVER FOUR-HUNDRED Nigerian musical artists across the country will converge for inauguration at the Music Promoters Association of Nigeria (MUPAN), Lagos State Chapter on Friday, October 27, 2017.
The event will hold by 12.00noon at Genesis Hotels, Ogba, Ikeja, Lagos State.
According to press statement, major artists would be in attendance with former times music promoters in the state which include: Musical and Instruments Hiring Association of Nigeria, Freelance Independent Broadcasting Association of Nigeria, Movie Producers Association of Nigeria, Music Advertisers Association of Nigeria etc.
The statement signed by the association’s secretary, Abiodun Awogbemi, noted that this year’s inauguration will also feature upcoming artists and outstanding musicians and individuals as well as several music lovers.
Awogbemi also indicated that the event will create a platform for some up-coming artist with new creativity to showcase their talent, and as well afford them the opportunity to discover upcoming creative artists.
“Opportunities for networking will also be a strong a point at the event as younger artists will be able to meet with experienced music promoters to encourage their growth in the industry,” according to Awogbemi.
The Lagos chapter of the artists’ body also said its new executives will be inaugurated during the occasion.
Meanwhile, many of the invited dignitaries, which are not limited to captains of music industry, chief executives of hoteliers, top media executives and many other distinguished Nigerians, have so far confirmed attendance.
Some of the principal artists expected at the event include: Chief Ebenezer Obey Fabiyi who will lead other juju maestros, fuji crooner Kollington Ayinla and Wasiu Alabi Pasuma will lead other fuji musicians, while ‘Small Doctor’ will vanguard upcoming artists.
Others to be present for performance are the music industry umbrella body, Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), Gospel Musicians Association of Nigeria (GOMA), Nigerian Association of Juju Musicians (AJUM), Islamic Singers Association of Nigeria (ISAN), Fuji Musicians Association of Nigeria (FUMAN), Indigenous Musicians Association of Nigeria (IMAN).
Massive load-shedding as TCN upgrades facility
THE TRANSMISSION Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that there would be massive
load-shedding in the next five weeks as the agency upgrades some of its
facilities.
Largely
to be affected are some customers under Ikeja Electric’s network.
Speaking
on the development, Chief Technical Coordinator, Ikeja Electric, Mr. Sunday
Oyewole, said the TCN is making this disclosure as it plans to upgrade TI
Ejigbo and T3 Alimosho Power Transformers from 30mva to 100mva. Adding that the upgrade, which began on Monday, would last for five weeks, Oyewole stressed that some customers under Ikeja Electric Plc would experience increased load-shedding activity.
He also gave details of the project plan indicating that TCN, in order to minimise impact on communities, will effect the upgrade one after the other, upgrading T1 Ejigbo first before work on T3 commences”.
Oyewole noted that areas such as Oke-Afa, Shasha, Ipaja are major areas that will be affected as the TCN will use all channels to mitigate the impact of the upgrade on customers.
